About City Hall of Leuven
The City Hall of Leuven, Belgium, is a landmark building on that city's Grote Markt Main Market square, across from the monumental St. Peter's Church. Worked in a Brabantine Late Gothic style somewhere in the range of 1448 and 1469, it is well known for its elaborate engineering, created in bind like detail. The city Hall has three fundamental stories, fixed with pointed Gothic windows on the three sides noticeable from the Markt. Above is a display parapet, behind which rises a lofty rooftop studded with four levels of dormers.
At the points of the rooftop are octagonal turrets penetrated with openings taking into consideration the section of light. Statues in canopied specialties are dispersed everywhere throughout the building. The corbels supporting the statues are cut with Biblical scenes in high alleviation. While the specialties and corbels are unique with the building, the 236 statues themselves are generally later, dating from after 1850.
Those of the principal floor speak to personages of significance in the nearby history of the city; those of the second, benefactor holy people and representative figures; those of the third, the Counts of Leuven and Dukes of Brabant from different ages. The principle veneer has a passage staircase, and two entries in the inside, above which are figures of Saint Peter left and Madonna and Child right, the previous in compliment to the supporter of the congregation inverse.
