About Chateau de Seneffe
The Chateau of Seneffe or Chateau de Seneffe is an 18th-century chateau placed in the municipality of Seneffe within the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The chateau is belongings of the French Community of Belgium and serves as the "Centre de l'orfevrerie de la communaute française" which shows a collection of antique silverware.
In 1758 the 'Seigneurie de Seneffe' was bought by means of Julien Depestre, a Walloon merchant who earned a fortune by using promoting goods to the Imperial Austrian troops stationed within the Austrian Netherlands. Depestre's new fame as a wealthy and influential person was also confirmed by way of the purchase of noble titles together with 'Seigneur de Seneffe' and 'Count of Turnhout'. The new citadel designed by way of Laurent-Benoit Dewez had to fit with Depestre's new noble popularity. It was erected between 1763 and 1768 in a novel neoclassical fashion. When Julien Depestre died in 1774 the ornament of the chateau and the embellishment of the park were persevered by using his widow and his eldest son Joseph II Depestre.
