About Vitebsk Museum of Modern Art
Vitebsk Museum of Modern Art changed into an artwork museum in Vitebsk, Belarus organized in 1918 by way of Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevich and Alexander Romm. In 1921 it exhibited a hundred and twenty artwork "representing all of the moves of the current artwork from the Academic Realism to Impressionism to Suprematism". In the mid-1920s the museum turned into abolished. While a few art work have discovered their way to museums of Russia and Belarus, the whereabouts of many art work are unknown. The records of the museum starts in 1918.
On 12 September 1918 famous painter Marc Chagall, then the Commissar of Arts for Vitebsk Region, went to Petrograd for purchasing the professional acclaim for his concept to organize a Museum of Modern Art in Vitebsk. On 14 November 1918 newspaper posted data that the works on employer of museum of cutting-edge arts had started in Vitebsk. The Museum become organized in the building of the People's Art School on 10 Bukharin Street. The museum turned into headed with the aid of Chagall and Malevich and later by means of Alexander Romm who changed into appointed the Chief of Vitebsk Commission on protection of Heritage and Arts on 15 January 1920.
