About Old Cathedral of St. Barbara and St. Paul
The Church of St. Barbara is a Catholic church and the parish in Vitebsk a city in Belarus. The church was built as a cemetery in 1785. In the years 1884–1885 became rebuilt in neo-Romanesque fashion via architect Victor Junosza-Piotrowski which includes the development of towers. It become closed inside the 1930s in the technology of the Soviet Union, and at some stage in World War II changed into partly destroyed. In the years after the warfare within the temple he had diverse uses.
In 1990 it changed into back to the Catholic devoted, and among 1991 and 1998 become renewed. In 1993, he turned into consecrated again. Between 1999 and 2011, the church served as the cathedral of the new diocese of Vitebsk. Today, the principle cathedral is the temple of Merciful Jesus in Vitebsk, consecrated in 2009. Later the follow church persevered under maintenance, which have been funded with help from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
