About Monastery of the Holy Spirit

Monastery of the Holy Spirit is a female Eastern Orthodox monastery in Vitebsk, Belarus. The monastery changed into founded in the 1380s through Duchess Uliana of Tver, spouse of Algirdas, Grand Duke of Lithuania. Algirdas ordered to production of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit on this monastery. About 1392–1393, after Algirdas' demise, Uliania took the vows of schema in her monastery. From mid-17th century until 1839, the monastery became Greek-Catholic. In 1839, after cancellation of the Union of Brest, it become converted returned to Orthodoxy and become quickly shut down due to poverty.

After the October Revolution the general public of the antique monastery's buildings had been destroyed. The October Revolution, formally recognized in Soviet historiography because the Great October Socialist Revolutionb and generally known as the October Uprising, the October Coup, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Bolshevik Coup or the Red October, was a revolution in Russia led through the Bolshevik Party of Vladimir Lenin that became instrumental inside the larger Russian Revolution of 1917. The monastery turned into revived in 2001. At gift, it owns one building.
