About Lida Castle

Lida Castle turned into one of numerous citadels erected through Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania in the early 14th century to guard his lands against the expansion of the Teutonic Knights. Other links on this chain of protection blanketed Hrodna, Navahrudak, Kreva, Medininkai, and Trakai. The present day metropolis of Lida, Belarus grew up around this fort. Lida Castle is 141 metres above sea stage. The web page selected for the fort is naturally defended by way of the Kamenka and Lida rivers to east and west.

Construction of boulder walls became executed in 1323, 1324, and 1325. Later they have been faced with crimson brick. The fort had two perspective towers and a church, which become moved outside the partitions in 1533. The higher storeys of both towers were lived in. Despite its sturdy fortifications, Lida became taken by way of the Teutonic Knights on several events. Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas gave it to his best friend, Khan Tokhtamysh, who settled "in a yurt close to the fort".
