About Kholm Gate
The Kholm Gate is famous among locals and visitors; it was one of the 4 entryways driving into the Citadel of the Russian Brest Fortress.
It was outlined in a great style in the mid-nineteenth century. It faces the southern branch of the Mukhavets River. The outside façade of the entryway was initially enlivened with whimsical little turrets and an emblem.
They are still there - the little turrets and the emblem – however, they were distorted always amid the opening hours of the war in June 1941.
All the red blocks in the Kholm Gate are scarred by shots and shells and darkened by smoke.
Today this entryway is a symbol of the Brest Fortress.
