About Panchagarh
Panchagarh is a locale of Rangpur division. It is in the outrageous northern piece of Bangladesh with a zone of 1404.62 square km, is limited on three sides by 288 km long Indian outskirt, having Darjeeling region on the north, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar Districts on the upper east, West Dinajpur District and Purnea region on the west. Dinajpur and Thakurgaon Districts on the south, Nilphamari District on the east. Its dirt is sandy, alluvial and bears close fondness with the dirt of the old Himalayan bowl.
On the northern piece of the area there exists underground layer of stones. It is 150 feet 46 m high from the ocean level. Panchagarh has 16 waterways. Among them some principle waterways are Karatoya, Atrai, Tista, Nagor, Mahananda, Tangon, Dahuk, Pathraj, Bhulli, Talma, Chawai, Kurum, Versa, Tirnoi, and Chilka. The presence of five garhs fortresses has up to this point been followed, of which the most noted are Bhitargarh, Hosaingarh, Mirgarh, Rajangarh and Devengarh.
Panchagarh is named after these five garh. In any case, before panchagarh it was designated "Pachagarh". At first, Panchargarh was a thana under Thakurgaon mahakuma when the parcel among India and Pakistan occurred in 1947. In first January 1980 it was built up as a mahakuma comprising of 5 thanas named Tetulia, Panchagarh Sadar, Atwari. Boda and Debiganj. First official of Panchagah was Sayed Abdur Rashid from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1982.
