Hohensalzburg Fortress

Hohensalzburg Fortress sits on the Festungsberg, a little slope in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Raised at the command of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg with a length of 250 m 820 ft and a width of 150 m it is one of the biggest medieval strongholds in Europe. Hohensalzburg Fortress is arranged at a height of 506 m. The fortification comprises of different wings and yard. The Prince-Bishop's flats are situated in the alleged "Hoher Stock" high floor. Hohensalzburg Fortress was restored from the late nineteenth century onwards and turned into a noteworthy vacation spot with the Festungsbahn funicular railroad, opened in 1892, driving up from the town to the Hasengrabenbastei. It stands today as a standout amongst other saved manors in Europe.

During the mid-twentieth century, it was utilized as a jail, holding Italian detainees of war amid World War I and Nazi activists previously Germany's extension of Austria in the 1930s. German ceramicist, artist, and painter Arno Lehmann lived and made in Hohensalzburg Fortress from 1949 until his demise in 1973. Hohensalzburg Fortress was chosen as the primary theme for the Austrian Nonnberg Abbey memorial coin stamped on April 5, 2006. This was the primary coin of the arrangement "Extraordinary Abbeys of Austria". It demonstrates the Benedictine religious community of Nonnberg Abbey. In the ridge on the foundation, the post and the Kajetaner church can be seen. Likewise in 1977, the Austrian Mint issued a coin for the 900th commemoration of Hohensalzburg Fortress.
