About Franciscan Church

The Franciscan Church is one of the most established houses of worship in Salzburg, Austria. The congregation is situated at the convergence of Franziskanergasse and Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse inverse the Franciscan Friary in the Altstadt segment of the city. The principal church on this site was raised in the eighth century. In the vicinity of 1408 and 1450, a Gothic choir supplanted the Romanesque choir. A slim Gothic pinnacle was included in the vicinity of 1468 and 1498.

The congregation was committed to the Virgin Mary and filled in as the ward church until 1635. It was surrendered to the Franciscan Order in 1642. Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach overhauled the congregation inside in the extravagant style in the eighteenth century. The first church on this site was worked in the eighth century amid the season of Saint Virgil, who may have utilized it for immersions. A record from 1139 notices an area church on this site.

That congregation was obliterated by flame in 1167, together with five different temples, including the Dom. In the mid-thirteenth century beginning in 1208, the focal nave of the congregation was worked in the late-Romanesque style, making it among the most seasoned structures in Salzburg. It was blessed in 1221. In the vicinity of 1408 and 1450 Master Hans von Burghausen started chip away at the brilliant Gothic choir to supplant the Romanesque choir, which Stefan Krumenauer finished.
