About Burgruine Starhemberg
Burgruine Starhemberg is a fortress in Lower Austria, Austria. Burgruine Starhemberg is 520 metres above sea stage. The name is derived from the original call of 'excessive mountain' or Starkenberg. A small citadel become built right here by using Ottokar III, Margrave of Styria among 1140 and 1145. At the time, the Piesting river become the border among Styria and the March of Austria. In 1192, Styria and as a result, the fortress become received via the Babenbergs.
The remaining Babenberger duke of Austria, Frederick II the Warlike, expanded and fortified the fort, leaving Starhemberg as one of the maximum essential castles in Lower Austria within the 13th century. After the Battle on the Marchfeld in 1278, the castle become acquired by using the Habsburgs. In 1482, the castle turned into captured through Matthias Corvinus, king of Hungary. In 1683, the castle presented safety from the Turks to the surrounding population.
