Burg Freundsberg

The fortress Freundsberg is a castle at the southern outskirts of Schwaz in Tyrol. The mountain fort is placed on a steep, relatively visible hill, about 170 m above the valley ground of the Inn Valley. The fortress turned into based in 1150 by means of the Lords of Freundsberg. Initially, the complex consisted only of a five-tale residential tower, that is preserved to at the moment and wherein nonetheless elements of the unique fresco painting can be visible.

The first chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross and St. Mary turned into consecrated on 23 November 1176 by the papal legate Archbishop Konrad I of Mainz. 1467 sold the castle to Archduke Sigismund the Münzreichen, who rebuilt it inside the following years and their temporary call Sigmundsruh, after some other supply Siegmundsfried, gave.
