About Reef Headquarters Aquarium
Reef HQ is the biggest residing coral reef aquarium. It is placed in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The aquarium became built as a Bicentennial Commemorative assignment and is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The Coral Reef Exhibit has 130 coral species and 120 fish species together with hundreds of species of sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, feather stars, snails, worms and sponges. Reef HQ became at the beginning the imaginative and prescient of Dr Graeme Kelleher, a former chairman of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
Dr Kelleher's number one goal become to carry the marine surroundings onto the land and make it easily reachable to the general public whilst additionally encouraging the general public to help shield the reef. ReefHQ changed into originally known as Great Barrier Reef Aquarium when it opened on 14 June 1987. The aquarium was renamed "ReefHQ" in 1999. Since 2009 the name of the aquarium changed into modified to reflect its unique call. It is now called Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium. Reef HQ Aquarium is inclusive of the Coral Reef Exhibit, a Predator Exhibit, a children's segment, a gift store and cafe. In 2006 Reef HQ opened new 'Exploring our Wetlands' interactive kiosks developed by means of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
