About Port of Sale
The Sale Canal is an exhumed channel around 2400 meters in length and 30 meters wide giving an immediate association between Flooding Creek in the City of Sale to the lower ranges of the Thompson River.
An area 370 meters in length augments to a greatest of 90 meters, shaping a swinging bowl close Raymond Street.
This region was known as the Port of Sale. Being ashore "for all time held for channel purposes" Gov. Journal 10 Dec. 1886 the channel goes under the care and administration of the City of Sale.
The first motivation behind the waterway was to give a traversable association from Sale to the Gippsland Lakes for the development of products and travelers from the railhead at Sale.
