About Lakes Entrance
Lakes Entrance is a seashore resort and fishing port in jap Victoria, Australia. It is situated approximately 320 kilometres east of Melbourne, near a controlled, artificial channel connecting the Gippsland Lakes to the Bass Strait. At the 2016 census, Lakes Entrance had a population of 4,810. The township became initially named Cunninghame, the Post Office of that name commencing on 5 February 1870. It became renamed Lakes Entrance on 1 January 1915.
Lakes Entrance, which lies nearly at sea degree, may be reached from Melbourne via Bairnsdale and the metropolis of Kalimna to the north-west via a stretch of the Princes Highway, which snakes down and around a factor protruding into the Gippsland Lakes called "Jemmy's Point". Views of The Entrance and of the Lakes can be seen from numerous appearance-outs on Jemmy's Point. The Princes Highway leaves the north-east aspect of the town through hilly geographical region toward Nowa Nowa and Orbost.
Lakes Entrance is predominantly a fishing and tourism-pushed metropolis; the main seashore the front is a harbour for business fishing and leisure watersport operations. The surf seaside is patrolled through the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club among November and March every summer time, with lifeguard patrols from overdue December to past due January. The waterfront is populated by means of the fishing fleet and floating eating places—Ferrymans Seafood Cafe and The Floating Dragon Dockside Restaurant.
