About Hastings
Hastings is a suburb of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia, as part of the urban enclave on Western Port comprising Hastings, Bittern, Crib Point, Tyabb, and Somerville. Its nearby authorities vicinity is the Shire of Mornington Peninsula. It is served via Hastings railway station at the Stony Point greater-metropolitan line. Hastings is located on an inlet on Western Port, a main port and vital environmental area. Hastings has multiple marinas and is home to many leisure boating activities. Hastings is idea to be named after a fishing city in England or the British imperial administrator Warren Hastings.
Previously known as King’s Creek and Star Point, its submit office opened on 4 February 1863. Settlement of the place dates from the 1840s, with fishing being the principle industry. Growth came about from the 1850s into the 1870s because the township evolved. Expansion continued in the late 1880 and 1890, aided through the development of the railway line and the established order of many orchards. Significant residential development passed off throughout the 1960s and 1970s, spurred via commercial growth and public housing creation. Growth started to slow from the 1980. The population has increased for the reason that early 1990, a result of latest dwellings being brought to the location.
