About Ballarat Botanical Gardens Reserve

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens Reserve, situated on the western shore of beautiful Lake Wendouree, in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, covers a territory of 40 hectares which is separated into 3 particular zones. The focal Botanical Gardens hold in the 'gardenesque' style of the Victorian delight plant. On either side there are open parkland cushions known as the North and South Gardens. The greenery enclosures include a substantial present day studio, returned Ex-POW war dedication, and the legacy statuary structure. The Stoddart Statue accumulation comprises of 12 white marble figures from Italy given by Thomas Stoddart in 1884. The 12 statues were figures from established folklore: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Hercules, Pomona, Bacchante, Hebe, Flora Farnese, Leda, Mercury and Flora.

An accumulation of bronze busts of all Australian Prime Ministers named Prime Ministers Avenue is set inside Horse Chestnut Avenue. One of the establishing fathers of Federation was Alfred Deakin who was the principal Federal Member for Ballarat and the second Prime Minister. The initial 12 busts were given by Richard Crouch who likewise left an endowment to include additionally busts. The South Gardens has Australia's Ex Prisoner of War Memorial, opened on 6 February 2004. Designed by Ballarat craftsman Peter Blizzard, the 130-meter long stone divider has the names of 35,000 Australian Prisoners of War carved into it.
