About Saint Gregory The Illuminator Cathedral

The Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral otherwise called the Cathedral of Yerevan is as of now the biggest house of prayer of the Armenian Apostolic Church on the planet, successfully making it the current biggest Armenian basilica. It is situated in the Kentron District Central District of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, and thought to be one of the biggest religious structures in the South Caucasus alongside the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi known as the Sameba Cathedral. Neighboring the General Andranik metro station, it's unmistakable from the ious corners of Yerevan.

The basilica was built by the activity of Catholicos Vazgen I. Its development began on April seventh, 1997 with a ground favoring administration led by Catholicos Karekin I. The congregation complex was planned by the designer Stepan Kurkchyan and the development was finished in 2001. The sanctification of the church building occurred on September 23rd, 2001, now and again of the 1700th commemoration of the declaration of Christianity as a state religion of Armenia The basilica houses the relics of Saint Gregory the Illuminator and the Holy Remains of St. Gregory that were brought from Naples, Italy. Soon after the sanctification of the house of God, Pope John Paul II visited the church building.
