La Pyramide
About La Pyramide
The Pyramid Square, and specifically its landmark, is the ideal case of the progressive changes that can shape a place.Everything started when Constantine was caught in October 1837. On the twelfth, the day preceding the catch of the city, General Danrémont was killed by a cannonball at the place that would turn into the Place de la Pyramide.
As right on time in 1842, a landmark in the state of a pyramid was raised here. On this landmark is engraved "Here was executed by a cannonball, going to the battery of the rupture on October 12, 1837, the eve of the catch of Constantine, Lieutenant General Denys, Earl of Damremont, Governor General in North Africa, Commander-in-Chief of the Expeditionary Army. "
In 1915, the pyramid was supplanted by another monolith molded landmark finished with the statue of General Damrémont, joined by a winged triumph. Before this landmark is likewise a wellspring that vanishes around 1952. The old pyramid isn't demolished, it is incorporated into the holding mass of the "esses" that join the place of the Pyramid to the street of Setif.
