About Bir Mourad Rais
Bir Mourad Rais is a commune within the Algiers wilaya in Algeria , positioned in the suburbs south of Algiers. Bir Mourad Rais is placed about four km south of downtown Algiers 3 at 140 m altitude. It integrates the district of Said Hamdine. Bir Mourad Raïs is positioned at the valley of the wadi Kniss . In 1793, Hasan Pasha will baptize a properly named Mourad Rais well-known pirate of the 16th century.
The first settlers settled there in 1831 but the village will expand from 1834 and the opening of the road from Algiers to Blida with the aid of the Column Voirol. In 1835 the village is integrated into the new municipality of Birkhadem. The commune of Birmandreis is created with the aid of prefectural decree on November 30, 1869At the time, it blanketed the territories of the present day commune of Bir Mourad Rais, Hydra and El Mouradia. In 1959 Birmandreis turns into the 8th district of the metropolis of Algiers, including Kouba and the common destiny Gue de Constantine. In 1977, new redistribution, Kouba becomes an independent borough.
