About Nainital
Nainital is a beautiful hill station endowed with beautiful landscape located in Uttarakhand. It is located at an altitude of 1,938 meters above sea level. Once upon a time, it used be a popular summer retreat of the British. It was also called by the name of City of Lakes as it is surrounded all over from the lakes. But, now you may not get the chance to see all of those lakes as most of them got disappeared. However, there is a lake called Naini which is famous. There is a temple dedicated to the goddess Naina too in Nainital.
This charming hill station can be visited any time of the year. However, the best time to visit Nainital is from February to November. Summers March to May are very pleasant with temperature never crossing 27 C and minimum is about 10 C. This is the best time for sightseeing and enjoying adventure. Heavy snowfalls are common during winters October to February with a maximum of 15 C and minimum going below 2 C. This is an apt time for honeymooning in Nainital. Tourists should come here during the Dussehra celebrations, which last for nine days during October and are very attractive with many colorful processions and festivities.
Nainital is famous for his beautiful green hills along with many lakes. The major tourist places of Nainital are Naini Lake, Naina Devi Temple, Tiffin Top etc. Naina Devi Temple is situated in the northern side of the Naini Lake, the temple is dedicated to Sati and is called the Naina Devi temple. Naina Peak also known as China or Cheena Peak is the highest peak in the town, with an altitude of 2,615 meter and is at a walking distance of 6 km from the north end of the town Mallital. Naini Lake is one of the major attractions in Nainital, it is also called Naini Taal. Snow View Trek is located at a height of 2270 meters above sea level and can be reached by the ropeway or the ponies available at Mallital. Tiffin Top or Dorothy's Seat is a terraced hill top on Ayarpatta hill, which is a 4 km hike from the town centre and gives a nice view of the beautiful hill side. You can enjoy the surroundings of Tiffin Top with a hot maggi and soup and cherish the beautiful memories created. One can also visit Bhimtal, which is the largest lake in the district of Nainital.
The Mall road, Bara Bazaar and Tibetan Market are the main shopping centres. Nainital is very popular for the iety of different beautiful candles available. Do not miss to buy candles and cane sticks from Bara Bazaar. The other traditional buys include scarves, shawls, woodcrafts, cardigans and so on. The Bara Bazaar in Mallital area also houses a lot of restaurants, which serve good food at reasonably cheaper rates. You can also buy freshly prepared jams, squashes and local juices.
