About Rising Sun
It is a city in Randolph Township, Indiana IN, U.S.A., along the Ohio River. The city is the province seat of Ohio County. The town was enrolled in 1816 by John James, initially of Frederick County, Maryland. At the time, it had a populace of around 700. Numerous German migrants settled in Rising Sun. The Rising Sun post office has been in activity since 1844.
In the 1830s, Rising Sun was a regular stop for several flatboats day by day heading down the Ohio River. The town has a loaning library, the Ohio County Public Library. The Clore Plow Works-J.W. Whitlock and Company and Rising Sun Historic District are recorded on the National Register of Historic Places.
