Highland

Highland is a city in Florida, United States. The populace was 2,051 at the 2000 evaluation. It is a piece of the Lakeland– Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. The cutting edge territory of Highland City was the site of the United State Army's Fort Fraser, built up in 1837 amid its war with the Seminole Indians. Zachary Taylor, previous U.S. President, charged the fortification for a brief period. Stronghold Fraser was surrendered not long after its development.

In 1885, the Pemberton Ferry Branch of the South Florida Railroad was finished amongst Lakeland and Bartow. The territory now known as Highland City was the main stop between the two bigger urban areas. The stop, and inevitable town, was named for the Haskell siblings, who were early financial specialists in the South Florida Railroad.
