Fethiye
About Fethiye
Fethiye is a city and district of Mugla Province in the Aegean region of Turkey with approximately 147,000 inhabitants. Modern Fethiye is located at the website online of the ancient city of Telmessos, the ruins of which may be seen inside the town, e.g. The Hellenistic theatre by way of the primary quay. A Lycian legend explains the source of the call Telmessos as follows: The god Apollo falls in love with the youngest daughter of the King of Phoenicia, Agenor. He disguises himself as a small dog and for this reason profits the love of the shy, withdrawn daughter.
After he reappears as a good-looking guy, they have a son, whom they name 'Telmessos'. The metropolis became part of the Persian Empire after the invasion of the Persian widespread Harpagos in 547 BC, along side other Lycian and Carian cities. Telmessos then joined the Attic-Delos Union mounted in mid-fifth century BC. And, even though it later left the union and became an impartial town, persisted its relations with the union until the 4th century BC. Very little is thought of the metropolis at some point of Byzantine times. Surviving buildings attest to vast prosperity throughout past due Antiquity, but maximum had been abandoned within the 7th–8th centuries because of the Arab-Byzantine Wars.
